Meet the Alpha Omega Sports Performance Coaches

Brad Hammac, CFL1 Coach

  • Exercise Science Major at University of West Florida
  • 3 years Division 1 College Baseball - USA
  • 1 year Division 2 College Baseball - National Champion
  • 2 years Naval Special Warfare Training
I have been barbell training since I entered high school and have been blessed to have the opportunity to work with some of the best strength and conditioning coaches in the country. I started doing CrossFit workouts after baseball ended to prepare myself for a military career. I entered the Navy and was selected for Special Warfare training. I spent two years in training battling injuries and illness until a back injury ended my career early. I received my CF certification after leaving the Navy and fell in love with coaching. I enjoy showing people there true potential and watching them grow stronger physically and mentally.

Brian King, Youth Performance Coach,
CFL1 Coach

  • Attended Florida State University
  • Currently working to obtain Starting Strength Coach's credentials
I am a former football player at Booker T. Washington, and club rugby player for the Birmingham Vulcans. I'm particularly excited about sharing the benefits of strength training for health and performance. My specialty is coaching the basic barbell lifts.

Brett O'Dea, CFL1 Coach

  • B.S. In Exercise Science from the University of West Florida
I might not be the typical exercise science major, as in high school I was overweight and had not yet found the joy of fitness. I found CrossFit in 2011 and it led me to lose 100 pounds. CrossFit was for me because I love to push myself physically and mentally to a breaking point. I know how rewarding it is to see results when you push beyond what you thought might not be possible and look forward to helping others do so as well.

Maria Popelka, Office Coordinator, Youth Coach

  • B.A. in Elementary Education from University of West Florida
  • Avid Runner
Being healthy and fit has been priority of mine since graduating college. My choice of fitness usually revolved around running numerous 5k's and bouncing from machine to machine at a lady's gym. After a friend showed me an Alpha Omega CrossFit advertisement, I decided to give it a try. Since that day I haven't been able to stay away, and now I'm happy to be a part of the team.

Alicia Tappan, Yoga Instructor

  • M.A. in International Psychology from Chicago School of Professional Psychology
  • Teaches: Guided Meditation, Pranayama: Breathwork, Reike, Yoga for all levels, Alternative Yoga: Chair and Restorative
I have 250+ hours of completed yoga training from a traditional yoga setting. Over the past few years I have specialized in beginner's yoga, but am unlimited with experience among all levels of yoga practitioners. My degree gives me an edge with relating to clients in a different manner. Working with clients in an empathetic and compassionate way allows me to visualize the change they wish to see, and also allows me to relate to them in a culturally diverse way.

Joseph McCrory, CFL1 Coach-Owner

  • B.S. Biological Sciences from Florida State University
  • B.S. Chemistry from Florida State University
  • Minors in Mathematics, Physics, Spanish, History, Political Science
  • Triathlete, Avid Runner, Cyclist, and CrossFitter
McCrory left healthcare management consulting in 2012 to open Alpha Omega Sports Performance, combining his business acumen with a passion for exercise and CrossFit to build the largest facility on the Gulf Coast. I love seeing others achieve their goals. I helped create that reality in healthcare and now in health and wellness.
